Equipment issues

Last summer we had postings about the impact of new swimsuits on times at the Olympics. Not to be outdone, now equipment may become an issue in hockey.

An enterprising high school goalie in Massachusetts’ Pingree School has designed his pads to look like the goal. I don’t have access to the original article in the Boston Globe, but here is a reference to it in the Baltimore Sun. Apparently there is no rule against this and the young man who came up with the idea has registered two shut outs since going to the new pads. He has applied for a patent for the design.

I am pretty sure that football rules are explicit that uniforms cannot have a football design on them. Can soccer goalies wear jerseys with netting and grass designs to camouflage their location? :>)
