Happy Fourth of July from the Staff Here at TSE

Today is the day that we celebrate the birth of the United States that was symbolized with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  From the Wikipedia entry on Independence Day (Wikipedia links embedded):

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independencethat had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain.[4][5] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.

The Wikipedia entry notes that historians have debated whether the Declaration was signed on July 4th, 1776.  But that’s the day we celebrate it here in the states and we celebrate it with those great secular products:  beer, fireworks, and sports of all kinds.

So have a safe and happy 4th from the staff at TSE.
