How to Get Your Sports Fix During the Busy Thanksgiving Season

I’m excited for the holidays, are you? The holidays are great because you get to take a break from the rat race, well at least some of us do. You get to connect with family, (whether you like them or not) and usually get to hang out and enjoy some great food.

Even with the family arguments, most people tend to agree that Thanksgiving is a joyous affair. After all, almost everyone we know looks forward to this time of the year to get their hands on some much needed fall festivities.

Yet,  this season of fun has a way to mess with our daily routines. From getting used to the changing TV lineup (looking at you, Hallmark) to where we eat, and with number of people that we eat with at the dinner table. The holiday can slide into all aspects of our lives to the point where we can turn into the Thanksgiving version of the Grinch, well, to an extent.

As sports aficionados, we can get used to the Thanksgiving -themed TV offerings (I, for one, tune out any news from Hallmark). We can even welcome our annoying cousins to break bread with us in the spirit of older times. However, what we simply cannot do is to let the busy holiday schedule with its Thanksgiving dinner preparations and Christmas shopping take us away from our favorite sports.

We have got to make the most out of what little time we get to watch and play our beloved sports, just so we could keep our holiday joy intact while spending time away from what we like to do the most. Thankfully, these few choice tips can help us achieve that feat.

Get Your Hands on Some Sports Betting Opportunities

As someone who loves sports, you may have already thought of dabbling into sports betting at some point .You may have already tried your hand at fantasy sports and placing a wager or two, or maybe even playing for the ultimate jackpot, with your co-workers and friends, competing in a FF tournament.

You may have even wandered over to your local bookie and placed a wager on your favorite sports team. I can’t blame you, who wouldn’t like to get in on the victory of their favorite sports team?

It is actually a great idea to make some extra cash to make up for Black Friday shopping while getting extended periods of fun and euphoria to boot. There are some responsibilities as well.

You have got to make sure that your tryst into sports gambling won’t leave you with troubles with the law, so checking your local regulations. For instance, if you are in the U.S., then checking American online gambling laws would be a great idea before you go ahead and bet on your favorite teams.

No one wants to end up with a fine or end up in more legal hot water for gambling illegally.

Have a Themed Sports Event

For the everyday American, the holiday season actually brings about one of the best offerings in the annual sporting events. NFL on Thanksgiving Day is a long standing tradition, one where you can get your sports fix for at least the whole holiday weekend of Thanksgiving.

Keeping this mind, pulling out all the stops to enjoy the day is not a bad idea. While you alternate between helping with the Thanksgiving meal and watching the three games of the day, enjoying the activities with a few dips and snacks would only enhance the experience for you.

And if you can bust out the color and jerseys of your favorite team, then that can only get your themed party some well-earned brownie points from your guests as well.

Segregate People by Hobbies

When hanging out with larger crowds than what you are used to have under your roof, it is a great idea to figure out what each member of said party likes to do in their free time. Why, you ask? Because it helps you put people with shared interests together.

For instance, by segmenting green thumbs into your backyard and the couch potatoes in front of a TV screen, you can get other sports enthusiasts out on a game with yourself or to the local bar to enjoy watching a live sports event together. This actually kills two birds with one stone and everyone is happy.

By following these few tips during the Thanksgiving season, you can have plenty of reasons to enjoy the food-filled holiday while also curbing your need for sports-related entertainment.

Have some more fun this thanksgiving and during the holidays as well, they are not supposed to be a chore, they are supposed to be something that everyone can enjoy. So be smart, plan ahead and let it be a time of giving thanks and good cheer.
